Air quality in Sydney is acceptable. Consider reducing intensity or duration.
Data from Open-Meteo • Updated 7:05:40 AM
Sydney generally enjoys excellent air quality thanks to ocean breezes and limited heavy industry, though bushfire smoke can cause summer spikes. Coastal running paths from Bondi to Coogee consistently offer some of the cleanest air in any major city worldwide. Winter months bring the most stable and cleanest conditions for outdoor exercise.

Try it freeSydney typically sees AQI values between 15 and 40, among the cleanest of major world cities. Bushfire smoke events (typically November-February) can temporarily spike readings above 200.
Autumn and winter (March-August) offer excellent running conditions with clean air and mild temperatures. The Bondi to Coogee coastal walk and harbor paths are ideal. Monitor bushfire smoke conditions in summer.
Vehicle emissions and industrial activity produce background pollution, but the most dramatic events are bushfire smoke and hazard reduction burns (typically October–March). Sea breezes and Sydney’s open coastal geography generally keep air quality very good outside of fire seasons.
The Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, Centennial Park, the Bay Run around Iron Cove, and Sydney Olympic Park offer excellent routes with clean air. Coastal paths benefit from ocean breezes. The Royal National Park provides trails with some of the cleanest air near the city.
Summer (November–February) carries the highest risk of bushfire smoke, which can push AQI above 200 during severe events. Hazard reduction burns in spring and early summer also cause localized smoke. Winter months occasionally see inversions that trap vehicle emissions but are generally mild.
Check the current AQI at the top of this page for real-time conditions. Sydney typically has excellent air quality outside of bushfire events. During fire season, conditions can change within hours — always check current readings and watch for smoke hazard warnings.
