Delhi faces some of the world's worst air quality, particularly in winter when crop burning, low winds, and cold temperatures create thick smog with AQI readings often exceeding 400. Summer monsoon rains provide temporary relief. The crisis is a major public health concern affecting millions of residents and visitors.
Delhi's AQI ranges from around 100 in monsoon season (July-September) to regularly exceeding 300-500 in winter (November-February). Post-Diwali and crop-burning season typically brings the worst conditions.
Monsoon season (July-September) offers the cleanest air, though humidity is high. Indoor exercise is strongly recommended during winter months. If running outside, early morning in August-September provides the best AQI readings.
