Mumbai's air quality follows the monsoon: from June to September, monsoon winds and heavy rain keep the air relatively clean. From about October to March, weaker winds and cooler nights trap emissions from traffic, construction dust and industry close to the ground. Marine Drive and Carter Road are popular early-morning running spots. Check the AQI before running in the cooler months.

Mumbai's monthly average AQI over 2023–2025 ranged from about 70 in the monsoon months (June to September), in the Moderate range, to about 160 from November to January, in the Unhealthy range. Individual winter days can be worse than the monthly average.
The monsoon months, June to September, have the cleanest air, although heavy rain and high humidity make training harder. From October to March, check the AQI before every run and move hard sessions indoors on Unhealthy days.
